PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) is an all volunteer, nonprofit organization founded in 1981, largely through the efforts of one Akron mother and a gay professor at Kent State University.
PFLAG’s goals are to:
PFLAG Akron-oldest of 20 Ohio chapters-is a member of the National Federation of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays founded in 1981 in Los Angeles. There are over 500 affiliates worldwide, comprising nearly 100,000 households. The National PFLAG office is located in Washington DC. Advantages of Membership in Akron PFLAG 1- You join a network of caring people that spans the world and has local chapters. 2- You receive an excellent monthly newsletter by mail in a nondescript envelope. 3- You may become as active as you like in advocating non-discrimination with regard to sexual orientation, and you won't have to act alone. 4- You are welcome at monthly chapter meetings where you will :
5- You're entitled to a vote at the annual meeting 6- You support others who are working to change attitudes and policies that endanger gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender, and questioning folks.
